Kenya Water and Sanitation Meeting
Our potable water and sanitation group has moved its location to the ECB Break room which is the North-most room on the Mezzanine level.
This group now has three main focuses to work on this semester. The first is to expand upon our slow sand filter knowledge. We will be testing the prototype slow sand filter we built here on campus, perfecting our design, and learning about successful ways to better propagate the idea throughout a village.
Our second focus is working on small scale low cost ways to remove fluoride from their water using materials available to them at little cost in their community.
Our third focus is to get a good idea about the design and cost of a small scale drinking water treatment plant. We are modeling our design after a much larger locally built design we saw while touring the area in Kenya and if we are able to secure funding in the future for this project, we would like to implelment it to provide all of the villagers in Orongo with affordable, safe to drink water.
